OTHELLO REFLECTION – THEATRE EXPERIENCE

Picture
I went to the QCC Performing Arts Center and I saw “Othello” directed by Liisa Yonker. William Shakespeare wrote this tradegy story, where jealousy, manipulation, intrigue were in action with terrible concequences. When I entered into the theatre, my first impression was surprise because the Humanities Theatre is a big place. It has an orchestra and mezzanine level.

The stage was designed multipurpose because all acts were developed into the same set. Many tubes were shaped to simulate balconies and elevations. They also made stairs to go up and down to the elevations according to each scene. The roofs of the stage were designed to separate one scene from the other. The middle roof contained a fabric to fall down to the floor. This fabric was used in different acts. Also, lighting and sound effects gave each act emocional sensations to help each actor in his performance.

All actors did an excellent job. All of them memorized each line and their performance was excellent. Their costumes and props were designed according to the era when the scene happened. So, it made each scene more real.

My personal opinion in general about the performance was very good. The development of each act was very professional. The most interesting characters for me were Iago, Othello, and Desdemona, but Iago (Philip T. Sabina) was the best because he represented very well a multifaced person. Iago did bad things to other and he paid for that.  We can apply this to our lives; if we permit jealousy, manipulation and intrigue in our lives we will have terrible consequences too.
